Here are some suggestions on things to think about getting when bringing your new Yorkie puppy home. The following items are what I have been using for my puppies.
The brand I am using is 4Health lamb puppy formula.
You can purchase it at Tractor Supply in Molalla.
Sometimes if the stool won’t firm up, you can add some pure 100% pumpkin
it’s best to use the same brand your puppy is already on. Sometimes they don’t tolerate change well.
I have started them out on this. But I will tell you when you pick up your pup if you need to purchase these two products. Hopefully your pup is comfortable without going this direction.
Goats milk and Puppy mush. Petco has the puppy mush and Fred Meyers sells this Goats milk. I found the recent Traditional Yorkie puppy really likes Fresh pet small log.
I also give a spoon of Cottage Cheese for calcium for the growing teeth and to help firm up the ears. You can also add an egg yoke. But no egg white. that is hard for them to digest according to a vet.
Mix this up with a can and a half of water to thin the mixture some.
The goat milk can be used without the recipe. I still like to thin it down with the water as it is a little thick.
There are three things to put in the playpen.
This is a playpen that I use for the puppy bed about 36 in square. Also a baby play pen will work too. But it is harder for the mom to get in and out of it. You could also use a crate. Just make sure the puppy can't get through the holes. I put a small bed in this Iris pen above and a pee pad tray with a grate on top of the disposable pee pad. For one hard case I covered the floor with two grated pee pad trays. Puppy had no choice to pee on floor then. I also found a cat bed about 12 x12 so pup wouldn’t have space to dirty her bed. That worked out nicely. Potty training needs to be consistent to be successful. What ever works. They want to tear up the disposable pads and they will eat them. So the grate will help hide it in the tray. Then put the food and water in the pen. The pen needs to be small so they learn to potty on the tray. They usually don't want to soil their bed. So keeping the area small for a time helps with the potty training. You can still play with them just don't let them run the house.
I also like the wire playpen at an older age. They can see out better and aren't so bored. I use them when the puppies are a bit older and for the adults.
BUT! There is a but. If the pup starts chewing on the wire pen put it back into the plastic pen. One of mine had its tooth stuck in the wire. So that wasn’t acceptable. There is always something.
Here is the pee pad tray and grate.
This is the disposable pee pad that goes in between the tray and grate.
Found disposable pee pads on Amazon.
These are tools for nails and hair cuts
Some of my dogs love to get brushed.
This is a nice clipper set.
I use Wonderside because it is safe from poison side affects.
Use baby Shampoo for the face, non-sting for eyes and dog shampoo for the body.
You will need a food and water bowl. I like ceramic because they are easy to clean and heavy enough so pups don't tip them over. I want them shallow so they don't fall in. And water should be changed every day so it is fresh.
