Color changes from birth to adult

This is when I first brought Loki home. She was about 8 weeks old. You can't predict the adult Yorkie's color as a puppy. Sometimes, you will be surprised. There can be many tones of the color.

Loki is with Daisy Mae

Loki and Daisy both have birthdays in August. They will both be 3yrs old in August 2020. Daisy was a Parti. She past away suddenly in 2022 from her puppies birth gone wrong. I am so sad about losing her. She was my favorite.

Remembering Daisy * A Wonderful Girl

Grooming Supplies

Grooming your Yorkie can save money and give you connection time with your dog.
Choose the supplies that you'll use to groom your Yorkie. You can find some good options at your local pet store. Here is a list of items you may need.

Brush
Pet Shampoo
Conditioner
Comb
Pet Nail Trimmer
Good hair-cutting scissors
Electric Trimmer
Hair Dryer
Cotton Swab For Ears
Towel
A Table for a dog to stand on securely
Some dogs will stand without restraint, and others won't. Yorkies should never be restrained with a leash around the neck. You don't want to damage the trachea. I use the leash, if necessary, behind the front legs and around the chest.

Bathing Your Yorkie

Brush and comb the coat to remove the mats or tangles before bathing. A Yorkie's hair is nearly impossible to brush when wet, especially tangles or mats. Combing will help separate the hair for better cleansing. Be gentle, so it is an enjoyable experience for your dog.

Remove excess accumulations around the tear ducts before bathing. A warm, wet washcloth helps, and my Yorkie seems to enjoy that.

Have all your bath supplies ready at the sink. The water should be warm, not too hot. Use a nonirritating shampoo around the eyes. Rinse really well. After the bath, blow dry the hair. I fluff with my hand because you can't comb or brush wet Yorkie hair.

Nail trims and haircuts can be done before or after the bath, or at another time if all this is too much for your dog or you.

There are many styles of haircuts for Yorkies. I have two that I shave short and leave length on the tail, legs, and head. Others have hair that is manageable at longer lengths. It is all a matter of personal preference and how much time you want to spend grooming.
